Before meeting Kaitlin, I honestly don't remember a time when I wasn't counting calories (either physically or mentally), obsessing over "being healthy", and fighting off urges to binge and snack all night. When Kaitlin introduced me to the idea of eating mindfully and listening to what my body wants, I was skeptical. I thought, 'if I listened to my body, I would be gorging on junk food all day, everyday'. But as we worked through my assumptions about food, I slowly started to trust myself that when I'm hungry or craving certain foods, there's a reason behind it. Understanding the "why" has helped me be more compassionate towards myself and my body, and my hostility towards food and exercise has started to go away. Working with Kaitlin has been a huge help as I’ve transitioned from macro tracking and calorie counting to learning to listen to and trust my body’s satiety cues and hunger signals. As someone who started dieting at 13 and had tried everything from Atkins to intermittent fasting to the Whole30 challenge, I’d long looked for external direction for how much, what, and when to eat. I dieted and binged for years and felt very conflicted as my body fought back against my efforts to lose weight. I even blamed my own lack of willpower as I felt like I failed diet after diet.
Kaitlin has helped with both the mental and emotional journey, as she’s shared research and support for why things feel the way they do. I’m very grateful for her help and am starting to learn to trust my body again. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth the struggle to get here. 3 minutes into the initial 15 minute phone call I knew Kaitlin was the right person to help me. From the start, I knew I was talking to someone who has real, honest interest and showed she truly cared. Kaitlin has backed it up 110% after our first two sessions. She listens, understands, and explains everything so well I trusted her right away. I’ve learned a lot about my body regarding what’s the best thing to eat but also learning why or why certain foods are best for me or not. We have come up with a plan that brings me the things I need to feel healthy again while helping me have more energy throughout the day. I use to feel really bad about myself with my body image and stomach pains with my Crohn’s disease. Immediately, i have noticed changes right away with her knowledge, support, and true desire for me to get better. Essentially, with Kaitlin’s knowledge, own experiences, enthusiasm, and trust, I’ve been able to walk with my chest held high, learn more about my body, love myself again, and have an overall better quality of life. - RF
